01 / DIAGRAM AND INSTRUCTIONS

What was commanded

Scripture describes one golden lampstand with seven oil lamps—not a nine-light object. The labels above the model and in the guide are clickable: the selected part flashes several times on the lampstand.

  1. 01

The base, shaft, branches, cups, buds, and flowers are made from pure gold as one whole. The lamps and utensils are named separately.

    Exod. 25:31, 36–39; 37:17, 22–24
  2. 02

Six branches extend from the central shaft: three on one side and three on the other.

    Exod. 25:32; 37:18
  3. 03

The six branches have three almond-shaped cups each: 18 in all. The central shaft has four more, making 22.

    Exod. 25:33–34; 37:19–20
  4. 04

In the detailed reconstruction: six, one on each side branch; three beneath the three pairs of branches; and two on the central shaft.

    Исх. 25:33–35; 37:19–21
  5. 05

In the detailed reconstruction: six flowers on the side branches, two on the central shaft, and one flower at the base.

    Exod. 25:31, 33–34; 37:17, 19–20; Num. 8:4
  6. 06

Seven lamps supplied with pure olive oil stand at the top. All seven burn together and direct their light forward. The lampstand stands in the tent of meeting, outside the curtain of the testimony.

    Exod. 25:37; Lev. 24:2–4; Num. 8:2–3
  7. 07

    Tongs, trays, and weight

The tongs and trays for removed wick-char are made separately from pure gold. The lampstand with all its utensils is made from one talent of pure gold. The historical scale of this weight is shown below.

    Exod. 25:38–39; 37:23–24 · Historical comparison: Matt. 20:2
  8. 08

    According to the shown pattern

Moses was commanded to make the lampstand according to the pattern shown to him on the mountain. Human imagination therefore cannot replace the written construction.

    Exod. 25:40; Num. 8:4

Historical scale of value

One talent of pure gold

≈ 75,000 working days ≈ 300 years of work

At 250 working days per year. This is a historical estimate of scale, not an exact price from the time of Moses.

Basis for comparison: Exod. 25:39; 37:24; Matt. 20:2; historical metal-value ratios.

Limit of precision. The five petals in the model reflect the appearance of a real almond flower, but Scripture does not separately prescribe a petal count. It also does not give exact dimensions, branch curvature, or the base profile. The count of 11 buds and 9 flowers is shown as a detailed reconstruction of the named elements, not as a separate new commandment.

02 / LIMITS OF PRECISION

Do not add to what is written

Scripture does not state the menorah’s overall height, the width or profile of its base, the exact angle or curve of its branches, or the exact form of the lamps, tongs, and trays. Therefore, the three-dimensional model shows the prescribed structure and named details, но не выдаёт реконструированные размеры и очертания за заповедь.

The count 22 cups · 11 buds · 9 flowers is a detailed reading of the elements named in Exod. 25:33–35 and Num. 8:4. They must not be turned into one repeatedly duplicated ornament.

These are oil lamps, not wax candles. Pure beaten olive oil was commanded for the light. Lev. 24:2

03 / VERIFICATION

Seven burn together

Not one at a time. Not one per day. All seven lamps—together.

7
YHWH’s ordinance

One lampstand

Seven lamps are set in place and lit together. They direct their light forward.

Exod. 25:37; Num. 8:2–3
9
An added form

Already a different object

Nine lights and a separate attendant lamp are not part of the instructions given to Moses. This is not the lampstand of Exodus 25.

Evidence from the Maccabean period

What burned in the cleansed temple

First Maccabees states plainly: a new lampstand was brought into the temple, its lamps were lit, and they gave light in the temple. This was the temple lampstand—the seven-lamp menorah established by Scripture. Its lamps burned together; they were not added one per day. 1 Macc. 4:49–50; Num. 8:2–3

The later account of the miracle of one jar of oil is recorded in tractate Shabbat 21b. Even there, the oil is intended for the temple lampstand. The point of the miracle is that its oil did not run out; the lampstand’s design did not change.

Eight days do not mean eight new lamps. In First Maccabees, these are the days of the altar’s dedication; Second Maccabees compares the celebration to the Feast of Booths. 1 Macc. 4:56–59; 2 Macc. 10:6–8

Where YHWH specified seven, nine do not become the same lampstand.
